PUBLIC WORK OF ART
The 9/11 London Project artwork has been created using steel from the World Trade Centre donated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The steel is also being erected in every state in America, as well as countries throughout the world including Canada, France, Germany and Italy. The 9/11 London Project is the only confirmed UK recipient from more than one thousand applications.
The New York Artist Miya Ando was commissioned by the Project to turn the steel into a public artwork to mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11. The artwork is intended to symbolise hope, peace and tolerance and to be a powerful symbol for the 9/11 Education Programme.
"The public work of art looks towards the future and the need globally to demonstrate tolerance and harmony amongst all people"
Sir Michael Oliver, 9/11 London Project Advisor, Lord Mayor of London 2001 – 2002
