All UK 14/16 year olds can win a trip to New York, chosen by our judging panel which includes Kevin Spacey CBE, Artistic Director of the
Old Vic Theatre and Oscar winning actor, Simon Schama CBE, historian and broadcaster, and Professor Chris Husbands, Director, the Institute of Education, London University.

In 2012 the 9/11 London Project launched the first 9/11 National Schools Competition for six UK students (14/16 year old) to win a once in a life time four day trip to New York. It was a remarkable success, with almost 400 entries received.

The 9/11 London Project announces that the 2013 competition will be open for entries as of Monday 25th February. Once again we’ll be giving every UK student between 14-16 the chance to win an incredible trip to New York.

Once in New York they’ll have the chance to meet people with compelling stories to tell about 9/11 and its aftermath, including Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani
, 9/11 NYFD Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, high school students and 9/11 family members; They will, of course, also visit the 9/11
Memorial at Ground Zero.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th 2001, making our reasons for running this competition, which makes young people aware of the significance of 9/11, all the more pressing.  We should never forget the horrific event and its wide reaching consequences.

The aim is to give students a rounded sense of the city so we’ll also give them the opportunity to see all the famous sights of the world’s most exciting city and soak up all the positive culture of New York.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter the competition students should either produce a short film (three-five minutes, under 75mb) or a 1,200 word essay responding to one of two questions:

'How did 9/11 Change the World?'
 or
'Why and How Would You Keep the Memory of 9/11 Alive in the UK?'

A winner and runner up will be selected for both of these questions and in both the film and essay categories. That’s four winners and four runners up in total.

All eight students will win a trip to New York to coincide with the 12th anniversary of 9/11. In addition each of the four category winners will receive £500 prize money.

There are no number restrictions on the number of entries from each school.

To get students engaged and excited we are encouraging UK teachers to visit the 9/11 Education Programme and explore the resources, films and timelines we’ve created with our partners the Institute of Education, University of London. They will find guidance in History, English & Drama, RE, Citizenship and Art & Design

The 9/11 Education Programme is endorsed and supported by PM David Cameron, Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education, Boris
Johnson,
Mayor of London, Rudolph Giuliani, Mayor of New York on 9/11, Lee Ielpi, President September 11th  Families’ Association NY and many others.
